History of Kintampo Waterfalls.

Kintampo Waterfalls is one of Ghana`s highest waterfalls located in, Bono-East Region, Ghana. It was formerly known as Sanders Falls during the colonial days. Kintampo Waterfalls was discovered in the 18th Century first by Nana Ankoma Kyerema.  Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first president of Ghana, visited the site before independence and constructed a structure at the site. Unfortunately, the structure was demolished in the 2000`s. The site was named Kintampo Waterfalls in 1992.

The falls has three interesting and beautiful stages: Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3. Kintampo waterfalls takes its source from Pumpum River, a tributary of the Black Volta. At Stage 1, water appears from the rocks and goes beneath the rocks and reappears at the second stage. At the second stage, the water reappears and tumbles behind several large rocks before dropping off the valley to the main waterfall stage, Stage 3 about 25 metres high. To access this stage, there is a brief hike that requires one to descend 173 steps and ascend 153 steps to climb out.
